Karin Coble focuses her practice on state court appeals, from all Ohio courts. Karin both prosecutes and defends appeals from Courts of Common Pleas, Municipal Courts, Domestic Relations Courts, Juvenile Courts. Karin has successfully appealed and successfully defended felony cases, misdemeanor cases, traffic cases, and family law cases. Karin is currently the Secretary of the Lucas County Bar Association, an Executive Committee member of the Toledo Women’s Bar Association, and sits on the Appellate Committee of the Toledo Bar Association. Karin is also Vice-President of the Toledo Civilian Police Review Board, having been appointed by Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson in 2016.
Karin also works for attorneys, directly serving lawyers’ needs for high quality research, writing, and analysis. Prior to starting her own practice, Karin was a staff attorney at the Ohio Sixth District Court of Appeals, to Judge William J. Skow. Before Judge Skow joined the Court, she was staff attorney to Judge Peter Handwork and intern to Judge Arlene Singer during law school. After Judge Skow’s untimely passing, Karin acted as staff attorney to eight visiting judges.
Karin taught philosophy classes at the University of Toledo since 1999, through law school and during her tenure at the Court. The courses included logic, critical thinking, ethics, and the history of philosophy. After law school, Karin focused her teaching on philosophy of law and business ethics.
From 2010 to 2013, Karin acted as “of counsel” to Albrechta & Coble, Ltd., focusing on appellate work and legal research and writing. Also, from 2010 to 2014, she was a research and writing clerk to Judge M. Scott Ramey of Sylvania Municipal Court. Karin has experience handling appeals from both courts of Common Pleas and Municipal Courts across Ohio.
Karin has drafted hundreds of appellate decisions for appellate judges, handled dozens of appeals, and has provided outsourced services on a plethora of cases for local attorneys, both civil and criminal. Outsourced matters Karin handles include domestic relations litigation, complex torts, bankruptcy litigation, and probate litigation, and appeals of all issues in courts throughout Ohio.
As a full-time researcher, Karin has the experience to spot issues in evolving areas of law and the technical research skill to ensure your case is strongly supported. Years of closely working with appellate judges and trial judges has given Karin insight into “how a court thinks” and can give you a more objective perspective on persuasive rhetoric to employ.
